Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup red food coloring
  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and red food coloring to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with the batter.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
  7. Frost with cream cheese frosting and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • Make sure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
