Instructions
- Cook the tortellini: In a large pot of salted boiling water, add the tortellini and cook according to package instructions (3-4 minutes for fresh).
- Melt the butter: While the pasta cooks, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and melt it.
- Sauté garlic: Add minced garlic, stirring until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Pour in heavy cream: Gently pour the cream into the skillet, stirring to combine and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese: Gradually whisk in freshly grated cheese until it melts into the sauce.
- Add the tortellini: Reserve about a cup of pasta water, then drain and add the tortellini to the sauce, turning to coat.
- Incorporate broccoli: If using, fold steamed broccoli into the sauce.
- Season to taste: Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Add protein (optional): Toss in cooked chicken, steak, or seafood if desired.
