- 2 medium chicken breasts
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- ½ cup frying oil (or melted butter)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 4 burger buns (buttered and toasted)
- Coleslaw
- Mayonnaise
- Pickles
Instructions
- Slice the chicken breasts into thin cutlets and season with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl, whisk together buttermilk and hot sauce. In another bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, cayenne, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Dredge chicken in the flour mixture, dip in the buttermilk mixture, and then coat again in the flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a cast iron skillet to 350°F (175°C) and fry the chicken for about 3 minutes per side until golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack.
- Mix hot cooking oil with brown sugar, cayenne, chili powder, smoked paprika, and garlic powder to create Nashville hot sauce. Brush over fried chicken.
- Assemble the sandwich with mayonnaise on the bun, add the spicy chicken, top with coleslaw and pickles.
Notes
Allow chicken to marinate overnight for enhanced flavor. Adjust spice levels to your preference.
