Description

A comforting casserole featuring layers of frozen pierogies, caramelized onions, creamy sour cream sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 package frozen pierogies (potato and cheese recommended)
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn deep golden brown.
  3. In a large baking dish, mix together 2 cups of sour cream and 1 cup of broth.
  4. Layer half of the frozen pierogies in the dish. Spread them out evenly.
  5. Add half of the caramelized onions and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining pierogies, onions, and mozzarella.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Garnish with chopped chives before serving.

Notes

You can prepare this casserole a day ahead and refrigerate. It can also be made in an air fryer with adjusted cooking time.
