Description

Indulge in crispy fries topped with melted cheese, caramelized onions, and a zingy creamy sauce in this comforting late-night treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp sweet relish
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 bag frozen fries
  • Cheddar cheese/American cheese
  • 2 onions (diced)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Begin by melting the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Pour in the neutral oil.
  2. Add the diced onions to the skillet along with the salt, stirring well.
  3. Allow the onions to cook slowly for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Prepare the sauce by combining mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, sweet relish, sugar, and optional chili flakes in a bowl.
  5. Mix until well blended and creamy, then set aside.
  6. Prepare the frozen fries according to package instructions.
  7. Once the fries are cooked, sprinkle cheese on top and broil for 3-5 minutes until melted.
  8. Layer caramelized onions on the fries and finish with the sauce.

Notes

Caramelize onions slowly for the best flavor. The sauce can be made ahead for convenience.
