Description
A vibrant dish featuring crispy chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken breast, cubed
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1–2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- Green onions, sliced for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken: In a bowl, coat the cubed chicken in cornstarch, ensuring every piece is well covered. Dip the coated chicken into the beaten eggs, allowing excess egg to drip off.
- Fry the chicken: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until shimmering. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, around 5-7 minutes. Transfer the golden chicken to a plate lined with paper towels, letting them rest.
- Aromatics in action: In the same skillet, lower the heat slightly and add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Mix the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, and red pepper flakes until combined. Pour this mixture into the skillet, bringing it to a gentle simmer.
- Reunite the chicken and sauce: Return the crispy chicken to the skillet, tossing to coat each piece generously in the sauce. Let it bubble for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is nicely heated through.
- Final touches: Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.
Notes
Make-ahead: Prepare chicken and sauce separately, store in the fridge. Air fry for a healthier twist.
