Description
A hearty and comforting Southern classic featuring tender beef covered in a crunchy coating, served with rich creamy gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Beef Steak (Tenderized)
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 cup Milk
- Oil (for Frying)
- 2 tbsp Butter (for Gravy)
- 1/4 cup Flour (for Gravy)
- 1 cup Milk (for Gravy)
- Optional: Paprika or Cayenne Pepper (for seasoning)
Instructions
- Season the Steak: Generously season the tenderized steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Create the Egg Mixture: Whisk together the eggs and milk until fully combined and frothy.
- Set Up a Breading Station: Arrange a dish filled with flour on one side and the egg-milk mixture on the other.
- Coat the Steak: Dip each piece of seasoned steak into the flour, then the egg mixture, and back into the flour for a second coating.
- Heat the Oil: Pour oil into a cast iron skillet and heat it over medium-high until it shimmers.
- Fry the Steak: Carefully place the breaded steak into the hot oil and fry until golden, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain Excess Oil: Remove steaks and let them rest on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Make the Gravy: In the same pan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add milk while whisking until it thickens.
- Serve: Top your crispy Chicken Fried Steak with the creamy gravy.
Notes
Use gluten-free flour if needed. Tenderizing the steak is crucial for a soft texture.
