  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Description

This impressive Cheesy Chicken Taco Ring is a crowd-pleaser! Flaky crescent dough filled with seasoned chicken, cheese, & taco toppings. So fun & easy!

Ingredients

For the Taco Chicken Filling:

  • 2 cups Cooked Chicken, finely shredded (rotisserie chicken is perfect)

  • 1 (1 oz) packet Taco Seasoning

  • ½ cup Water

  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese: A blend of Cheddar and Monterey Jack is ideal.

  • ½ cup Sour Cream

  • 4 oz Cream Cheese, softened (the secret for a creamy, cohesive filling)

  • ½ cup Salsa (choose mild, medium, or hot)

  • 1 (4 oz) can Diced Green Chiles, drained

  • ½ cup Frozen Corn, thawed (optional, for sweetness and texture)

  • 2 Green Onions, thinly sliced

For the Ring Assembly:

  • 2 (8 oz) cans Refrigerated Crescent Roll Dough (the “sheets” are easiest, but triangles work perfectly)

  • 1 Egg, beaten (for the egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp Taco Seasoning or Everything Bagel Seasoning (for sprinkling on the crust)

  • Non-stick cooking spray or parchment paper

For the Fiesta Garnish & Dipping Bar:

  • Shredded Lettuce

  • Diced Tomatoes

  • Sliced Black Olives

  • Sliced Jalapeños (pickled or fresh)

  • Sour Cream

  • Guacamole or Diced Avocado

  • Extra Salsa

  • Lime Wedges

Instructions

Step 1: Create the Creamy Taco Filling
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the shredded chicken, taco seasoning packet, and ½ cup of water. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes until the liquid is absorbed and the chicken is coated. Remove from heat. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream, mixing until smooth. Add the seasoned chicken, shredded cheese, salsa, drained green chiles, corn (if using), and green onions. Stir until everything is evenly and thoroughly combined. Let the mixture cool slightly while you prepare the dough.

Step 2: Build the Ring Foundation
Line a large baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper or spray it with non-stick spray. Unroll both cans of crescent dough. If using triangles, separate them. Arrange the dough pieces on the parchment in a large circle, with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the pointed ends facing outward like a sun. The overlapping wide ends should create a solid circle in the center about 5-6 inches in diameter. Press the seams where the wide ends overlap to seal them together.

Step 3: Add the Flavorful Filling
Spoon the cheesy chicken taco mixture in a continuous ring directly onto the wide, sealed circle of dough, keeping it away from the very center hole. Press the mixture down gently to form an even, compact ring of filling.

Step 4: The Art of Braiding
Take each pointed triangle of dough and fold it over the filling, tucking the tip under the bottom of the ring in the center to secure it. Continue all the way around until the filling is enclosed and the ring has a beautiful, braided appearance. It’s okay if a little filling peeks through.

Step 5: The Golden-Brown Finish
Brush the entire surface of the dough with the beaten egg wash. This is essential for achieving a deep, glossy, golden-brown crust. Sprinkle the top lightly with the extra taco seasoning or everything bagel seasoning.

Step 6: Bake to Perfection
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and a deep, rich golden brown. If the top is browning too quickly, you can tent it loosely with foil for the last 5-10 minutes.

Step 7: Garnish and Serve Taco-Style
Remove the ring from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes. This allows the cheesy filling to set slightly for cleaner slicing. Carefully transfer the ring (on the parchment) to a large serving platter or board. Fill the center hole with a bowl of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or guacamole. Arrange small bowls of all your other garnishes and dipping sauces around the platter. Serve warm, instructing guests to pull apart segments or slice with a sharp knife, then top their piece with their favorite fixings
